CMMI® Technical Training

We offer official SEI training (as an SEI Partner), as well as specialized, practical CMMI training of our own design.

Official SEI training includes the following courses:

Integrated Process Solutions, Inc. training includes:

Official SEI Training

Dr. Myers has delivered the SEI’s official three-day training course and its predecessors for the SEI (as a Visiting Scientist) and independently in partnership with another company for several years.  We’re now offering the CMMI product suite ourselves as an SEI partner.

Dr. Myers has participated in over 250 officially sanctioned CMMI training events.  He has done this as an authorized instructor for the SEI's Introductory, Intermediate, and Instructor Training courses and as an instructor candidate observer.  He has taught and/or observed over 25% of all current Introduction to CMMI instructors and mentored many of the SEI's instructors for the Intermediate and Instructor Training courses.  It is safe to say that no instructor is more qualified or experienced.

Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2

Introduction to CMMI is a prerequisite for many of the SEI's other CMMI training courses, and it is a requirement for anyone who will be participating as a SCAMPISM appraisal team member.  We teach the official SEI course, using their required materials according to the presentation guidelines.  Chuck's extensive CMMI training experience and deep model knowledge allow him to enrich the course in unique ways to create an uncommonly rich learning environment and experience.  Rather than duplicate what the SEI says about the course, their course description can be found here.

There are a great many sources for this instruction (between the SEI itself and all of the other authorized partners), so a key question would be, why us?  In a nutshell:

  • You will be taught by one of the most knowledgeable, experienced, and effective CMMI® instructors in the world.

  • Your training will include additional instruction and materials that are available only from us.

  • You will be taught at a very detailed level, so you will leave the course with more extensive and deeper knowledge of the model.

  • You receive all of this added value at very competitive rates.

Acquisition Supplement for CMMI v1.2

The Acquisition Supplement for CMMI has been developed by the SEI for people in organizations that are (or will be) using the CMMI®-ACQ model as the basis for maturing their acquisition-related processes.  This one-day course exposes participants to the differences between the ACQ and DEV models.  The SEI has established Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 is a prerequisite for participation.  The SEI's course description can be found here.

Services Supplement for CMMI v1.2

The Services Supplement for CMMI has been developed by the SEI for people in organizations that are (or will be) using the CMMI-SVC model as the basis for maturing their service-related processes.  This one-day course exposes participants to the differences between the SVC and DEV models.  The SEI has established Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2 is a prerequisite for participation.  The SEI's course description can be found here.

CMMI® User Workshop

IPS Inc.'s CMMI® User Workshop was originally designed and developed by Dr. Chuck Myers, drawing on his extensive experience teaching the SEI's official CMMI courses.  It was intended as an addition to the SEI's CMMI curriculum--a parallel offering to the Intermediate Concepts of CMMI course, but with much broader and deeper model coverage, and with far more opportunity to explore practical application. The SEI wanted to add it to their official CMMI curriculum, but Dr. Myers called off negotiations when it became clear that mutually-agreeable terms would not be reached.  (The SEI began work on their Understanding CMMI Practices II and III courses after negotiations were terminated.)

The User Workshop addresses the many complex relationships between and among model components, providing a truly integrated view of CMMI-DEV. In five days you gain robust, practical, in-depth model knowledge and have the opportunity to apply what you have learned to your particular needs and to your specific use of the model. The following detailed information sheets are available for download:

Although the workshop was designed originally for participants who have already completed the Introduction to CMMI course, we have found that people with no previous CMMI background or knowledge do very well in it.

CMMI®-DEV for Systems Acquirers Workshop

Announcing: Public Workshop, June 9-11, 2009 in Bethesda, MD.  Details here.

CMMI®-DEV for Systems Acquirers is the latest of our workshops, and we’re very excited about it. To the best of our knowledge, it is a unique CMMI training product.  It focuses entirely on use of the CMMI®-DEV model for source selection, contracting, and contract monitoring.

Why this workshop?  Unfortunately, years of CMM and CMMI experience show that “high maturity” suppliers don’t always behave as such.  Actual performance all too often doesn’t live up to expectations established when “level 5 processes” (or some other maturity level) are touted in proposals.

People in acquisition organizations often find themselves at a disadvantage when dealing with such contractors.  They haven’t been able to gain the kind of CMMI knowledge they need, so source selection is less than effective.  Solicitation packages don’t elicit meaningful and informative proposal content, and selection board members have difficulty differentiating between offerors whose proposals cite appraisal results and little else.  Even more challenging is monitoring process performance to ensure that a supplier's actual practices are consistent with the maturity level expectations established by their proposals.

This three-day workshop provides knowledge, understanding, and practical approaches that will make such tasks much easier and more effective.   Click to view a more detailed information sheet.
